Darkly humorous, surreal, and nail-biting thriller…that then turns into a horror show…Burrell has a knack for blending dark comedy with horror.

Director’s Statement

The story for Life of the Party was something I had originally envisioned about 6 years ago, and I had mentally toyed with the concept ever since. This culminated at the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, at which point I (along with the rest of the world) was experiencing a sense of hopelessness and despair. I felt a collective frustration at life’s seemingly random cruelty, and I channeled these emotions by turning to the page. Thus, the script for Life of the Party, a dark, thrilling, and occasionally surreal short horror film about the insanity of life, was born. Despite the film’s disturbing content, I deliberately included elements of dark comedy that are present in so many of my personal favorite horror films, such as Misery, Us, Scream, and 10 Cloverfield Lane. Ultimately, I hope I have crafted a film that will thrill and shock you, all while making you nervously giggle at the same time.
